Catholic Mission in Action

Last term, Year 3 held a Market Day as part of our HSIE PBL unit on Producers and Consumers. The day was very successful, raising an enormous $712. Our plan was to donate the profit to an organisation that would help children less fortunate than we are.

During World Mission month we learnt more about the children in Madagascar, what it is like to go to school there and the conditions in which they live. One thing that stood out to us all was the lack of access to fresh water, something we all have as a basic right. A suggestion was made to donate our Market Day profit to help the children of Madagascar. The decision was made. With a little help from our staff members, we raised the difference and met the $824 target to cover the cost of installing a new water pump, for the benefit of these children.

We would like to thank everyone that supported us in the process of Market Day, the Year 3 parents for all their assistance and everyone else involved to help us achieve this incredible donation. This is yet another example of the generous spirit of OLA. We are very proud of our students and know this contribution will make a significant difference to the lives of many children and their families.
