Diocesan Cross Country

Thirty eight eager students represented Our Lady of Angels at the Diocesan Cross Country. What started as a chilly morning turned into a glorious and warm day at the Sydney Motorsport Park, at Eastern Creek.

At the beginning of the day, OLA students huddled together to keep warm while they waited for their race to be called. The students were well behaved throughout the day and enjoyed meeting new students from other schools. As each race went under way, our students cheered on and encouraged their team members who were racing. Their cheering continued to inspire their racing team member and push them further. All the students showed great support and sportsmanship throughout the day and we congratulate them on their efforts.

All  students represented the school with great pride. Every student on the day showed tremendous determination and perseverance and set personal best records. Most of our students who have represented OLA in previous years at the Diocesan Cross Country improved their ranking, beating their previous years’ achievements.

The top eight students in each level move onto the next stage. We would like to acknowledge four of our students who will represent OLA/Parramatta Diocese at the NSW Catholic Schools Cross Country in June. 11 Year Boys (3km) Nicholas Cutroni-2nd place

10 Year Girls (2km) Ella Sievwright-4th place
8/9 Year Girls (2km) Seronique Taylor -4th
8/9 Year Boys (2km) Marc Zammit -8th

The OLA cheer squad needs to be commended, as after the students finished their race, they commented on how this help with their determination to push themselves to complete the race and strive to go to the next stage.

Congratulations to all the students who participated on the day and we are proud of the wonderful growth shown and achievements accomplished by all of our OLA Cross Country representatives.

A special thank you to Miss Grima for training our students over the last month to prepare them for the event. Thank you Miss Grima and Mrs Cutuk for assisting the organisers of the Cross Country on the day. These events run much smoothly with many hands to share the load. Thank you to Mrs Callaghan, who was our OLA Team Manager, who was there to assist the students throughout the day and cheer them on. Thank you to our parents who continue to support OLA community on these days. I know the students feel supported when they hear cheering, see friendly faces in the crowd and are there for them after they have completed the event.

Nicholas finished 2nd in the 11 Yr Boys 3km run.

We may have the smallest number of representatives, but we always have the largest (and loudest) support from teachers, parents and students representing us on the day!
