Year Four takes a step back into the past.

To conclude the unit on British Colonisation, Year Four went on an excursion and guided tour to The Rocks.
We took a bus into the city and the children were in awe when they saw the spectacular Harbour views and were excited to be travelling on the Harbour Bridge. Once we alighted, we took the scenic route to the Contemporary Arts Museum. We stopped to see The Tank Stream which we learnt was the  fresh water supply for the first settlers to Sydney Cove.

We then sat at the Harbour to soak in the views while we ate morning tea. Students soon started pointing out the name of the small ferries which are named after the ships of the First Fleet.

Our tour guides, Kim and Pete, arrived and we began our tour. We began at Cadman's Cottage where the students learnt about the change in the shore line and information on William Bligh. Once we reached the First Settlers' monument, the students were treated to a special story about Mary Reibey, who was transported to Australia for seven years. She later became a pioneer and is now featured on the $20 note.

The highlight of the tour was seeing the cannon and the anchor originally part of the ship, the Sirius. As well as this, we saw a scale representation of the City of Sydney in Customs House.

Overall, it was a great experience and Year Four would like to thank Mrs Sweeney, Mrs Misek, Mrs Price, Mrs Silva, Mrs Girdham and Mr Pacella for accompanying us on a lovely day exploring The Rocks.
