Year 5 Picnic and Shopping Challenge

How much can $10 buy to contribute to a grade picnic celebration? That was the question that had Year five visit Coles and Woolworths with a budget of $10.00 per group.

Prior to going to the shops, we had to complete several tasks to find out what we would need to buy to feed 54 people and how much money it would cost. We were all in groups and had a specific category to focus on such as bakery, confectionary, deli, drinks and frozen foods. When we did all our calculations, we needed to work out where we were going to shop for our items due to our final total.

Year 5 teachers and some parents accompanied students  on their walk to Rouse Hill Town Centre. Upon arrival, the groups of students  went to their respective shops with $10. After purchases  were done, they walked safely back to school with groceries.

"When we got back to school the Miss Grima and Mrs Byrne, with the assistance of the parents, began to set up the food. Everyone was given a plate on which to put their food which we shared There was plenty of food like sandwiches, donuts, drinks, fruit, ice cream, lollies, chocolate and chips," said Charlotte.

We had $6.40 leftover and decided to donate the change to Project Compassion. We enjoyed our Year Five picnic and would love to do it again.
