Year 5's Excursion to Taronga Zoo

Year 5 went on an excursion Taronga Zoo for our Science unit. When we arrived at the zoo, a tour guide came and gave us a lesson on ANIMAL ADAPTATIONS. We learnt how animals use their abilities to protect themselves from predators and to hide from their prey. Then we went behind the hospital to see a turtle who had lost a flipper and was in a rescue tank strengthening it to be released back into the wild.

After that, we were allowed to enter the main part of the zoo. First, we saw all the African animals - the zebras were the most fascinating. I learned that, like finger prints, no zebra pattern is the same. When we saw all the reptiles, they were really well camouflaged. I thought some of the enclosures were empty but you just had to look for them really hard. I really enjoyed seeing the giraffes, they had a  statue of the worlds tallest baby giraffe. I got to stand next to it- I felt so short! When we saw the monkeys their adaptation was their long tail to swing from tree to tree. I also enjoyed seeing the gorillas because they were so much like us in the way they moved, ate- maybe not talked, but they were cool.

We took lots of photos and had a good time we learned so much for our excursion. Then on the way back I was so tired I fell asleep.
