The contemporary and collaborative design of Our Lady of the Angels (OLA) Primary School in Kellyville is a winner! The design and build of the new school building was recognised in the 2017 NSW Chapter Awards for Learning Environments Australasia with a category one award for New Facility Construction.
OLA Principal Eva La Rocca said the final stage of the six year project saw architect, Brett Anderson from DeAngelis Taylor, work closely with the school leadership team to come up with a state-of-the-art design for a stimulating learning space that meets the needs of students and teachers in delivering 21st century learning.
‘I am privileged to have been associated with this talented group of architects who listened to our needs and, of course, I am thrilled and proud that our school has received this recognition,’ Mrs La Rocca said.
‘It is an additional accolade to what is already a very proud school community – staff, students and families.’
The exciting project aimed to create an up-to-date learning environment to support teamwork and was built in two stages with the assistance of Commonwealth Funding. Features include an atrium, known to students as a “Learning Street”, designed to encourage students and teachers to work together. The Learning Centre, complete with “Learning Street”, two-storey cubby house and café, caters for students from Year 1 to Year 6, providing a really vibrant place to play and learn.
