Educating for the future
The learning journey at Our Lady of the Angels honours the developmental stages in a student’s life. Based on leading educational research and the best of today’s technologies, we prepare students for the future by teaching them how to think critically and creatively, how to communicate effectively and how to lead and work both independently and collaboratively.
Educating for the future
The key learning areas
We follow the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) approved curriculum in the key learning areas of:
Religious Education
As a Catholic school we also have a strong religious dimension that runs through all the KLAs and is also formally recognised as the KLA of Religious Education.
Our Lady of the Angels students take part in formal Religious Education every day, based on the new Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese curriculum, Encountering Jesus. This curriculum invites all students to consider how the teachings of Jesus Christ can apply to their lives.
Every learning space has dedicated area for prayer reflecting the liturgical season and classroom topics. Our parish priests visit our classrooms on a weekly basis.
Religious Education
At Our Lady of the Angels, our expert teachers are committed to developing the knowledge, skills and strategies across Key Learning Areas so that students may become proficient and independent learners.
Our students achieve outstanding NAPLAN results that exceed national standards, testifying to the high quality of teaching at our school.
Students can represent the school in national scholarly contests such as the Maths Olympiad and the Rotary Writing Competition.
As the building blocks for all learning, we have a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy throughout our learning and teaching programs.
Literacy
Every day, teachers dedicate class time to the teaching and learning of literacy. They practice a wide variety of strategies that assist in the development of reading, writing, and speaking and listening skills
Our Reading Recovery program provides early intervention for students with literacy challenges. With individualised support from a specialist teacher, children can quickly become confident readers and writers.
Numeracy
Developing core numeracy skills are a key focus of classroom teaching. Our students grow proficiency across all areas of mathematical reasoning.
All students receive the Mathematics Assessment Interview (MAI) to better identify and track their performance. Extending Mathematical Understanding (EMU) program is available for students with numeracy difficulties.
